2019-2020 Hunting Season!

As if we don’t have enough to worry about: mosquitoes, ticks, poison ivy, snakes, muggles, falling off the sides of cliffs-- it’s hunting season! As I was searching for hunting schedules I found this extremely useful webpage on njhiking.com
This webpage covers all of New Jersey: https://www.njhiking.com/hiking-nj-during-hunting-season/. I would recommend reviewing it before leaving on your next trip into the woods.
Also, remember to wear bright colors especially blaze orange. You don’t want to mistaken for a deer.
Here’s another article with more suggestions during hunting season: https://www.usatoday.com/story/travel/2013/09/24/hiking-hunting-season-safety-tips/2854437/.
Keep safe out there!

After a 2 year hiatus, this annual event has been revived. The “Winter Picnic” was held at the Great Swamp Watershed Association's 73 acre Conservation Management Area (CMA) just off Harter Road in Morristown. There was more mud than snow but the mushy terrain did not stop the 40+ attendees from enjoying a campfire (complete with S’mores!), tasty hot cocoa, a geocache cake, and other treats. Everyone took home an NNJC bookmark created by 2nd Cup, Pip$queek and Speedy#1.
Roxbury Devil contributed to the fun with a St Patrick’s trivia game and he provided the prizes! Several new caches were published during our event and a large group headed out in a race for the FTFs. (Ok, really, it was a group thing. There was no pushing or shoving. Everyone shared the FTF. )
There might not have been a lot of snow but there was a lot of fun!
Thank you, Debbie Smith and Jen Kaufmann for all the event planning.

A Cuddle of Cachers

Bad weather didn’t stop a cuddle of geocachers from huddling in the Gazebo at Mountain Way Park on October 20. Ryclops’ event, Afternoon in the Park GC8E00C, went on despite the cold and drizzle. Fortified by snacks and warm apple cider, 29 geocachers descended on the gazebo, squished together, ate food, chatted about geocaching, swapped trackables and a few brave souls went in search of geocaches. Thank you Ryan for hosting another fun event! Visit the event page to see all the photos and read the logs. GC8E00C
