Morristown National Historical Park is a United States National Historical Park, headquartered in Morristown, New Jersey, consisting of four sites important during the American Revolutionary War: Jockey Hollow, the Ford Mansion, Fort Nonsense and the New Jersey Brigade Encampment site.

Where America SurvivedMorristown National Historical Park commemorates the sites of General Washington and the Continental army’s winter encampment of December 1779 to June 1780, where they survived through what would be the coldest winter on record. The park also maintains a museum & library collection related to the encampments & George Washington, as well as items relating to pre- and post-Revolutionary America.

Welcome to Whittemore! From guided walks to painting classes to community gardens to children’s camps to evening concerts and more, there’s something for everyone at Whittemore!  Lots of exciting things are happening here, so please click through our website to explore! Encompassing 180 acres of land on Rockaway Road in Tewksbury Township, 11 miles of nature trails, and the renovated Whittemore House, Whittemore - Community, Culture, and Conservation offers a wide variety of Nature, Cultural and Educational Programming for enthusiasts of all ages. Funds raised through donations, grants and special events directly support Whittemore - Community, Culture & Conservation.

NNJC partnered and developed  Whittemore's geocaching trail, in 2018 NNJC will create a mini-trail Geocaching trail for for Eyes on Autism. The Whittemore trails are open daily to the public from dawn to dusk.  Please respect nature and take all trash and dog waste back out with you.

NNJC developed and launched at Geocaching trail throughout the 180-acre preserve which was bequeathed to Tewksbury Township by the beloved Helen A. Whittemore. She was a nature lover and diarist who wanted her land and house to be preserved so that others may be awed by the natural world and inspired by its beauty to preserve it.
The preserve includes Whittemore House, Whittemore Meadows and 11 miles of trails for hiking, dog walking, and exploring, photographing and painting nature. Trails traverse mainly wooded areas with wetlands, ravines, and hilly terrain. The preserve also serves as the perfect stage for birders and nature lovers to view local avian species and other wildlife.

NNJC developed and launched a Geocaching/Autism trail at the Whittemore CCC Property, June 2018.  Eyes of Autism, a nonprofit organization focused on helping to bring autism awareness directly to communities and workplaces.  We hope to increase awareness and understanding within the community. We work hand and hand with businesses or communities that have taken the time to complete our program. Please support the businesses that support our community.

The Parks System is comprised of over 6,000 acres of open space, including large undeveloped reservations and heavily used neighborhood parks which have an abundance of recreational facilities and over 140 buildings. The Department also operates Turtle Back Zoo, Richard J. Codey Arena at South Mountain Recreation Complex, the Essex County Environmental Center, and three golf courses. NNJC Has partnered with The Essex County Environmental Center for Earth Day Geocaching 101 presentations.

Duke Farm Foundation

NNJC launched the popular Duke Farms Geo-trail in 2012. Geocachers who complete the trail receive a token featuring the logo at left.  In February 2013, NNJC hosted a "Geo-Academy" at the beautiful Farm Barn Orientation Center. Featuring presentations, guided caching expeditions, and demonstration tables, this event attracted over 150 visitors of all ages. Duke Farms serves as a model of environmental stewardship and inspires visitors to become informed stewards of the land. It is a place of education, enjoyment and research that enhances the environmental health of the region. Through the beauty of its natural setting, the diversity of its wildlife, and the scope and quality of its educational programs, demonstrations and research, Duke Farms inspires people to start building a more sustainable future.

Great Swamp Watershed Association

In cooperation with GSWA staff, NNJC assists with boardwalk and kiosk construction projects in addition to helping maintain the existing trail system. Over the last three years, NNJC has participated in a Bio-Blitz at Great Swamp NWR
and hosted numerous geocaching events, the most delightfully spooky of which is the night-time, family-fun Halloween "Fright Hike." The GSWA is dedicated to protecting and improving water resources in the region by monitoring local streams, advocating for intelligent  land use, and educating our communities about water quality and quantity and their effect on the health and natural beauty of the local environment. The Association serves as an important environmental
resource for individuals, organizations and governmental entities.

Franklin Township, Somerset County

In partnership with Franklin Township, NNJC launched a geotrail at the Griggstown Native Grassland Preserve in October 2013. After completing the trail, geocachers receive the token seen at left. The trail system in the Griggstown area covers 376 acres, but these trails connect to other trails that transverse the entire length of the 685-acre Ten Mile Run Greenway. The site contains both 102 acres of open fields and 583 acres of woodland.  Historically, the fields were row crops but more recently the property was used as a horse farm.  A map and rules and regulations of the 5.4-mile trail system may be downloaded as a PDF file by clicking here.

The New Jersey Audubon Society is a privately supported, not-for profit, statewide membership organization. Founded in 1897, and one of the oldest independent Audubon societies, New Jersey Audubon has no connection with the National Audubon Society. New Jersey Audubon fosters environmental awareness and a conservation ethic among New Jersey's citizens; protects New Jersey's birds, mammals, other animals, and plants, especially endangered and threatened species; and promotes preservation of New Jersey's valuable natural habitats.
